As part of our honeymoon trip my husband and I incorporated a cross country road trip. Beginning in the City of Angels, we embarked on the butt numbing, sign counting, fast food eating adventure that ultimately left us with many memories of good times, fun with friends and family, and amazing sights to see. Willingly we set up residence in our new Ford Explorer for a little over a month and set out to discover the country in a way we hadn’t in the past.
First Stop. California.
We flew from Honolulu International Airport to LAX, our first night in LA we stayed close to the airport at the Hilton. It was a nice spot for a good night’s rest after our long flight. The next morning we picked up our vehicle from the LA shipping port and began our journey.
My old “stomping grounds” so to speak… I grew up in and around the Huntington Beach area as a child and young teen, it’s had been many years since I had visited the spot. So it was fun to experience it with my husband.
Views from the pier.
The infamous Ruby’s Diner, stop in and have an ice cream shake and burger!
Stopped in at the local brewery.
La La Land.
The next day we drove back up to Los Angeles to spend the day at Universal Studios ! Total tourist day, but that’s what this trip is all about. We sprung for the VIP tour, because (why NOT)–we will probably never go again so we figured to go all out.
The tour was a bit pricey, but we saw everything, got to go in the front of all lines, and got a 5 star all you can eat lunch. And BONUS the HARRY POTTER WORLD!!!! My absolute favorite part of the day…
Butter Beer is as delicious as it looks in the movies 😉
I have family in the Temecula area, which is about 2 hours east of where we were staying in Orange County. We left the OC after two fun days, and headed up to Temecula to spend some time in the beautiful wine country.
Bonus there were horses!
California was all in all a great time. We spent a total of 4 days there..two being spent near the coast and LA then we went inland to see some pretty countryside and visit with family. There are a lot of wineries in the Temecula Area and would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the Southern California area.
Also, every year around the beginning of June there is the Temecula Balloon and Wine Festival where there is a great lineup of music, foods, wines, and of course hot-air ballooning. Something to keep in mind if you want to plan a visit!
